Moscow
Moscow is one of the most famous ancient cities of Russia. It was founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky in 1147. His father was Vladimir Monomachus. Yuri Dolgoruky was the prince of Rostov and Suzdal.
At first Moscow was a small fortress. When Yuri Dolgoruky visited it he decided to build a town on the bank of the Moskva River.
Moscow was situated at the trade crossroads and had powerful strategic and commercial advantages.
During the reign of Ivan the Terrible in 16th century Moscow became the capital of Russia. In 1712 Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg.
Moscow was destroyed by fire during the Patriotic war by Napoleon in 1812.
In 1918 Moscow became the capital of Russia again.
The Kremlin and Red Square are symbols of Moscow and Russia. The name of Red Square means beautiful. There is a monument to Minin and Pozharsky who helped to clear Moscow from the Polish invaders in 1612. There is also St. Basil’s Cathedral, one of the most interesting sights.
Nowadays Moscow is one f the largest cities in the world. The population of the city is above 13 million people. Moscow attracts people from all over the world. And they come to see this wonderful city and try to understand Russian character and soul.
