Vladimir is located on the Klyazma River, at the distance of 200 kilometres to the east of Moscow.
Vladimir was one of the medieval capitals of Russia. It was founded by Grand Prince Vladimir Monomakh in 1108.
On the city’s coat of arms is depicted a lion – a personal mark of the Vladimir – Suzdal prince. The lion has a crown on his head and is holding a silver cross.
There are many tourist attractions in Vladimir.
The Dormition Uspensky Cathedral, the Cathedral of Saint Demetrius and the Golden Gate are included in the White Monuments of Vladimir, designated as The UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The interior of the Dormition Uspensky Cathedral was painted by Andrei Rublev in 1408.
Now Vladimir is one of the tourist centres of the Golden Ring of Russia.
There are a few urban legends in Vladimir.
In 1767 the City was visited by Catherine II and her carriage got stuck in the arch of the Golden gate. Also Vladimir has its own haunted house that can talk.
