The New Year day is the most popular and favorite event for people from all over the world. Celebration of the New Year’s day depends on traditions of each country. For most people the New Year begins on the 1 of January but there are some countries where this holiday is celebrated on other days. I want to tell about New Year’s day in Thailand. For people living in Thailand New Year’s day is on the 13 of April. They call New Year’s day “Songkran”. On this day people go to Buddhist temples, do a big cleaning up and cook special food for New Year. Instead of Santa Claus the symbol of New Year’s day is a barrel or bucket of water. There is one unusual custom in Thailand. During the celebration of New Year people take water from buckets and throw it at each other. After that they smear each other with talc. People believe that the wetter you are, the more luck you will have in the New Year. Once I was on the New Year holiday in Thailand. It was very interesting, funny and unforgettable.
