I’d like to tell you about Suzdal, a small town not far from the city of Vladimir. Nowadays Suzdal is the smallest of the Russian Golden Ring towns with the population of just about ten thousand people, but a major tourist attraction.

Suzdal is one of the oldest Russian towns. The town was founded in 1024. In the beginning of its history Suzdal was an important political and religious center. But later it lost its importance because it is located far from the railway.

Now Suzdal is an important tourist center. It’s famous all over the world because it has some brilliant examples of old Russian architecture. There are 305 monuments in Suzdal, including 30 churches, 14 bell towers and 5 monasteries. One of the most famous of them is the Kremlin that was built in the 10th century and is older than the Moscow Kremlin.

I have never been to Suzdal but I’d like to go there and see the beautiful ancient churches and learn a lot of interesting things about the history of Russia.
