Vladimir city is named after its founder, Grand Prince Vladimir the Baptist Svyatoslavich or Vladimir the Red Sun.
The city was founded in 990 by Prince, on a high, picturesque riverside of the Klyazma. For more than thousand-year history, Vladimir experienced periods of prosperity, decline and ruin, which in turn alternated with times of honor and glory. In the history of Russia, Vladimir has played a vital role as the capital of the North-Eastern Russia for more than two hundred and fifty years.
Today the city is the administrative centre of Vladimir, the Vladimir region, the largest industrial, cultural and tourist centre, the pearl of the “Golden Ring” of Russia. The convenient location of the city on the road arteries, connecting regions of Russia with Moscow, excellent rail connections contribute to the development of the city and the region.
Modern Vladimir keeps the memory of many generations and is renowned for its priceless monuments of culture, history, archeology, architecture, and religion, which are the main asset of the entire Russian. The white stone architecture of Vladimir has world fame ancient, which is unique beauty attracts tourists and lovers of antiques from all over the country and Abroad.
The city conveyed to the present day revival of the monastery and ancient buildings from different historical periods, the most earliest of which were built in the XII century. Special attention of tourists attract Assumption Cathedral, Golden Gate, Dmitrov Cathedral, Museum of Glass, crystal and lacquer miniatures, paintings and frescoes by Andrei Rublev and Daniil Cherny.
In 1992, the main historical monuments of the city of Vladimir were recorded into the list of UNESCO Commission for the protection of natural and historical monuments of world heritage sites.
