Armenian New Year

In the past the New Year in Armenia was celebrated on the 21th of March. The New Year in Armenia was at the beginning of spring and on the birthday of the God Vahangn.

In the 20th century the Armenian people started to celebrate the beginning of New Year on the 1st at January.

On New Years Eve children walk the streets of their village . They sing song and get fruit and gifts.

Traditional Armenian New Year's food is dried fruits, raisins, cakes, dolma.

They hide a coin into a cake. The person, who takes the part of cake with the coin is going to bring luck to the family.
